Wood sculptures

Wood is one of the earth's most mysterious elements. At once rough and fragile, its contours and textures are only revealed under the artist's gentle manipulation. These pieces explore the concept of perception. Different angles, approaches and even moods can reveal complex layers within each shape. Working with and around the wood's natural "split direction", the shape and material of each piece juxtaposes the inevitability of nature with the intention of man.

Disconnection

Made of the heart of the eucalyptus root. Encompassed by a binding outer ring of commitment , the disconnection of the two internal bodies keeps them part of one whole.

Hannah and Infant Shmuel

When childless Hannah prayed to God for a child, she vowed that were she to conceive she would grant him to the high priests in order to serve God. She did, and the child became the prophet Shmuel.

Women of Prayer

Shrouded in prayer shawls, women pray together in a creation of their own voice and strength. Different colors of the wood were manipulated by the artist to create the contrast between the women and their prayer shawls.

The Cracked One

The women has lost her voice through a crack that begins in the neck, and leads down through her body. The sculpting process revealed a second statue within the first; a face peers out from the heart of the voiceless woman.
